Arizona OSHA Rules


Under the OSH Act, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace. OSHA mission is to assure safe and healthful workplaces by setting and enforcing standards, and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance. Employers must comply with all applicable OSHA standards.

Employers must also comply with the General Duty Clause 5(a)(1).

What is the General Duty Clause?

   (a) Each employer

(1)- shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees;

(2)- shall comply with occupational safety and health standards promulgated under this Act.

(b) Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to this Act which are applicable to his own actions and conduct.

How to read the OSHA Standards

Part 1926, for example, is commonly know as the OSHA Construction Standards. Part 1910 covers OSHA General Industry Standards and Parts 1915, 1917 and 1918 include the OSHA Standards for the Maritime Industry.

Under each part, such as Part 1926, major blocks of information are broken into subparts. The major subparts in 1926 standards include:

Subpart E       Personal Protective and Life Saving Equipment

Subpart I       Tools – Hand and Power

Subpart L       Scaffolds

Subpart M      Fall Protection

Subpart P       Excavations

Each subpart is further broken down into sections, for example, Subpart P – Excavations, has sections 1926.650 through 1926.652.
